How do you get your team to say the word “heart throb” without saying “teenage,” “idol,” “star” or “movies”? With more than 1,000 words for players to try to guess, the “unspeakable” fun can continue for hours.
TABOO, everyone’s favorite game of forbidden words, has gotten a makeover in 2011! Now with a new, sleek look, game changing die and hysterical “Uh-Oh!” buzzer sound, players will frantically try to get their teammates to guess the winning word without using the Taboo words and phrases on their card.
The Taboo Game comes with 270 TABOO cards, Cardholde, Card Tray,Buzzer, Game-changer Die, Sand Timer and Score Pad.
Our Take: We have never played Taboo before and were looking forward to giving it a try. The object of the game is to get the most points by guessing the most words. You have a card with the “Goal Word ” on top and then 5 words you are not allowed to say underneath. Sounds easy enough. But there are a few rules to follow:
- You can’t use any form of the of the word that is on the card
- You can’t make gestures
- You can’t make noises, but you can sing
- You can’y rhyme or sound like words
- You can’t use abbreviations or initials
Now does it still sound like fun? I played this with my 10 and 8 year old. We messed up a few times until we got the hang of it but we had a fun time playing together. It does say that it is for adults but my 8 year old liked playing it. You can play the original way or use the new game changer dice. This dice shakes things up a bit. When rolled, it can land on one guesser, double the time, statue, all play or classic play. The hardest for me was the statue. I had to stay perfectly still while giving the clues!
