If you have ever watched a Nicholas Sparks movie then you know that you are going to tear up! Just how many of these tear gushers have YOU seen? Message in a Bottle, A Walk to Remember, The Notebook, Nights in Rodanthe, Dear John, The Last Song, and The Lucky One.
Safe Haven was different though. This movie had a two twists to it. First is that that there is a antagonist but you don’t quite know how he fits into the story with the character Katie. But you do know that he is an alcoholic and not a very nice guy. And second, it wasn’t a tear jerker. Definitely still a “chick flick” but not one that would make you sad cursing Nicholas Sparks with, “Why…why did that have to happen!” Here is the synopsis of the movie:
- When a mysterious, beautiful woman named Katie, moves to Southport, North Carolina, she sparks the interest of the locals, especially Alex (Duhamel), a handsome widower. Although she is attracted to Alex, Katie is reluctant to trust him – that is, until a new friend (Cobie Smulders) convinces her to give Alex a chance. But before long, a dark secret from Katie’s past threatens her happiness.
I received the Blu-ray version that included several extras including an alternate ending. I will say do not get too excited about that. I was expecting something totally different to happen. That did not happen. SPOILER ALERT: The real ending was just a shortened version of the alternate ending. Same ending! My favorite extra scene was watch the *dreamy* Josh, go crabbing.
